Sat 4/16 @ 8PM

Sun 4/17 @ 3PM

British baroque composer Henry Purcell’s opera from the late 1680s, Dido and Aeneas, took its story from Virgil’s Aeneid, recounting the doomed love of Queen of Carthage Dido for Trojan warrior Aeneas. It is one of the earliest English operas.

Oberlin College’s Historical Performance Department and Case Western Reserve University’s Baroque Dance Ensemble will present three historically informed performances of the opera, featuring Oberlin Conservatory students on vocals and baroque period instruments, and baroque-style dance choreography by Julie Andrijewski. Stage direction is by student director Jason Goldberg, Oberlin class of ’16. It will be performed at Oberlin’s Fairchild Chapel on Friday and Saturday and CWRU’s Harkness Chapel on Sunday. Admission is free.
