Akron’s @StanHywet Hall & Gardens Opens for the Season

StanHywet

Fri 4/1

The estate that is now Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens was built between 1912 and 1915 by one of the founders of Goodyear Tires, F.A. Seiberling and his wife, both active and influential in the civic and cultural life of Akron. It was also the site of the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous.

In 1957, their children gave the estate to the community where it is now a National Historic Landmark, open to the public throughout the summer season with tours, exhibits, performances, “woof walks” for dog lovers and their canines, special events such as a car show and a crafts festival, or just to enjoy a day and picnic on the extensive grounds.

Stan Hywet opens for the season on April 1 with the 2016 theme “Sharing Our Stories.” It will focus on the Seiberling family  and their stories and accomplishments with exhibits throughout the buildings and grounds. It will feature five “Walk the Hall” guides where guests can tour the Manor House from the perspective of five different Seiberling family members. Inspiration in Bloom will be on display in the Manor House 4/7-10.

Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am-6pm (last admission 4:30PM) with Manor House tours from 11am-4:30pm.
