The Rock Hall’s Sonic Sessions concerts are a mixed bag, presenting both hot young artists like Alessia Cara whose January 28 concert is already sold out, and gifted journeyman artists like Gill Landry, who performs there this week.
Landry, a Louisianan who honed his chops busking on the busker-dense streets of New Orleans, spent eight years (2007-2015) with the Old Crow Medicine Show, who also developed their crafty mix of old-time, bluegrass, folk, jug band and blues with a pre-WW II throwback vibe via playing informal street gigs.
He also released albums of his scrappy bluegrass/alt-country in 2007, 2011 and 2015, leaving Old Crow Medicine Show after the latter to focus on his own career. Tickets to the Sonic Sessions concert, which takes place on the Rock Hall lobby stage, are $5.50.
