Richie Cole is one of the veterans of the east coast jazz scene. The alto sax player from New Jersey attended the noted Berklee College of Music in Boston, and then launched his professional career with the Buddy Rich Big Band. He also did time with the Lionel Hampton Big Band and the Doc Severinson Big Band before taking the lessons he learned and applying them to his own “alto madness” ensembles. He’s made more than 50 albums in the nearly five decades he’s been playing.
While he’s a master of playing with, and writing and arranging for, big bands, he’ll perform with a quartet when he comes to Nighttown. It features some noted Cleveland area players including pianist Dan Maier, acoustic bassist Peter Dominguez and drummer Donnie Patterson. Tickets are $15.
