There probably wasn’t much that jazz trombonist/composer Delfeayo Marsalis could do other than play music. He’s the son of one of the deans of New Orleans jazz, Ellis Marsalis, and he and all his brothers — Jason, Branford and Wynton — followed in dad’s footsteps. He attended New Orleans’ legendary performing arts high school NOCCA and went on to Berklee College of Music where he pursued a related interest in recording and production.
He’s released a small but choice group of albums as a bandleader, the most recent being last year’s The Last Southern Gentlemen, while working also as a producer and educator. He’ll perform two sets at BluJazz Akron with a quintet that also includes sax player Roderick Paulin, pianist Richard Johnson, bassist Jeff Pedraz, and drummer Winard Harper.
Tickets are $25.
