Grammy-Winning Classical Guitarist David Russell Next @ClevelandGuitar

Fri 3/28 @ 7-9PM

Sat 3/29 @ 7:30PM

Classical guitarist David Russell got lucky as a child. When he was little, the now 60-year-old Scottish musician’s family moved from Glasgow to Spain, a major center for classical guitar. There he was exposed to and inspired by the music of such master players as the legendary Andres Segovia.

Since studying at London’s Royal Academy of Music and winning a host of major international guitar competitions, he’s built an impressive touring and recording career that includes winning a Grammy in 2005 for his recording Aire Latino.

Russell is the next performer being presented by the Cleveland Classic Guitar Society at their usual venue, Plymouth Church in Shaker Heights.

His program will include music by Mauro Giuliani, Domenico Scarlatti, Enrique Granados, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Isaac Albéniz.

Tickets are $25; $20 for seniors, and $15 for students.

Russell will also be conducting a master class at the Music School Settlement Friday evening prior to his performance. He’ll be listening to and instructing classical guitar majors from Baldwin-Wallace University, the Cleveland Institute of Music, the University of Akron, and Youngstown State University. Anyone can observe; it’s free.

Just to clarify- the master class is Friday at the Music Settlement and the concert is Saturday at Plymouth Church. There is no Friday concert. Thank you!
