@MetOpera Broadcasts Renee Fleming in Rusalka to Area Movie Theaters

Sat 2/8 @ 12:55PM

Wed 2/12 @6:30PM

The next in the series of nationwide live broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera features one of the legends of the operatic state: soprano Renée Fleming. She’ll be singing the titular role as the water spirit in Antonin Dvořák’s Rusalka, one of her signature roles.

The opera, which debuted in 1901, is a staple in Czech opera houses, although it’s nowhere near as well known in the U.S. as warhorses like La Boheme and Madame Butterfly. With its roots in Czech folklore, it’s packed with witches and nymphs, magic potions and spells. But there’s plenty of what opera is best known for: romantic rivalry, unrequited love, and of course, dramatic death.

The opera will be broadcast live at numerous theaters throughout northeast Ohio on Saturday and rebroadcast the following Wednesday. Go here to find locations.

Tickets are $22.
