Those Darlins began as a scrappy alt-country trio of women in 2006, tinkering with traditional country music.
They’ve evolved into something else. One of the original members has moved on, while the other two founders, Jessi Zazu and Nikki Kvarnes, front a quartet with two male musicians — drummer Linwood Regensburg and bassist Adrian Barrera.
The music’s changed too. You can still discern a trace of country influence on tracks like “Oh God” and “Ain’t Afraid” from their brand new album Blur the Line — their third. But other tracks like “Optimist” and “Baby Mae,” are sassy garage-pop outings with a ’60s vibe.
They’ve also been pushing the pocket image-wise, with a nude band photo and a crotch-focused video for “Optimist.”
They’ve hit the road in support of the new album. Catch them at the Beachland Tavern with Gambles and Filmstrip opening.
Tickets are $10.
