Since the debut of the North Union Farmers Market at Shaker Square in 1995, the granddaddy of the current wave of markets, new farmers markets open every season. And no end seems to be in sight, as more people learn to love the idea of fresh, seasonal, local food and enjoy the weekly interaction with the people who grew or produced the food they’re buying.
Many markets are sponsored by cities around northeast Ohio or take place on the campuses of health care facilities, aware of the benefits of encouraging people to eat better. Many also serve as community gathering places, with music, kids’ activities, chef demonstrations and artisan booths.
While most run outdoors from April or May through September or October, a handful continue in an indoor location throughout the year. Check out the market nearest you!
