Rick Ray Band Does Trower at the Winchester

Sat 6/29 @ 9PM

Prolific guitarist Rick Ray has been kicking around the local music scene since the late ’70s, feeding his guitar hero inclinations into ambitious progressive rock.

Although he’s slowed down the pace of his releases — at one point he was putting out seven or eight albums a year — he and his band, The Rick Ray Band, still stay busy.

Ray’s latest project is the performance of Robin Trower’s 1974 album Bridge of Sighs in its entirety at the Winchester.  Trower’s second solo album after he left Procol Harem, its widely considered his most essential work, featuring tunes that became the backbone of his repertoire.

Trower’s band at the time was a guitar/bass/drums trio. The Ray Band  should put their own spin on the tunes with expanded instrumentation. In addition to Ray, the band includes Rick Schultz on saxes, clarinets and oboe, Wally Spisak on bass and vocals, DC on lead vocals and harmonica, and Paul Geltch on drums.

Tickets are $10.
