The Armstrong-Bearcat Band played blues standards in local bars for what seemed like forever. Guitarist Butch Armstrong still leads a band by that name, even though bassist Stutz Bearcat has moved on.
Each year on Memorial Day weekend, the annual Armstrong-Bearcat reunion takes place at Cebar’s on E. 185th Street on the Sunday evening usually occupied by the Alan Greene Band’s jam night.
Armstrong and the current band — bassist Mike Barrick and drummer Bill Coakley — are joined by past colleagues including guitarist Greene, Cy Sulak, and Neon Don Buchanan, Mike Barrick and Bill Coakley. It’s an opportunity to hear some of the area’s best players for free.
