David Elkins was a member of the Virginia-based band Mae, which stands for “multi-sensory aesthetic experience.” Right there you probably can sense that there’s some serious ambition at work.
Mae recently did what it called its “final” tour. So while the band is inactive, Elkins has formed an entity called This Is Schematic, which aims to bring together various types of musical and artistic creativity. Or, as he puts it “Schematic is a culmination of creativity, art, thought, struggle, frustration, faith, innovation, and connection …. Schematic is the community of artists, creatives, musicians, and people who simply enjoy connection through relationship and rely on each other to fulfill each other’s needs.”
On the practical level, this involves a recording studio, a management company, and a record label. “Together we will create the diagram and the plan,” he says.
Meanwhile, he’s going out on the road as Schematic and stopping in at Musica in Akron. Waves opens. Tickets are $9.99.
