Walk of Fame Kicks Off 2012 Rock Hall Induction Week

Rock Hall’s Walk of Fame Unveiled

After many years of planning and preparation, Cleveland has what Hollywood has, but maybe even a little cooler.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Walk of Fame was inaugurated today as part of the kick off of the 11 days of the 2012 Rock Hall Induction ceremony.

The first dozen cool vinyl LP-like bronze plaques have been imbedded in the sidewalk in front of Pubic Hall, soon wrapping around Rock and Roll Boulevard (East 9th Street) down to the Rock Hall, and eventually on sidewalks throughout the city. Rock Hall president Terry Stewart said the process for figuring out where the plaques will be planted, “Is like Chinese algebra.” For this year’s Induction ceremony held at Public Hall, guests on the Red Carpet will stroll right on top of the freshly planted Walk of Fame with plaques honoring The Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Crickets, The Comets, The Small Faces/The Faces, Guns ‘n Roses and others.

The initial set of plaques were donated by corporate sponsors and the Rock Hall board at $5K each; subsequent plaques representing Rock Hall inductees will be auctioned off. Anyone want to guess how much The Beatles or Elvis’ plaques will go for?

Leading up to the April 14th ceremony, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is hosting more than a week of special events, including the grand opening of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s new Library and Archives; tours of the newly-redesigned museum interior space; the unveiling of a new Grateful Dead exhibition; a Rock My Soul gospel tribute honoring Kirk Franklin; a free concert for Cleveland featuring Inductee George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Kid Cudi and Kids These Days; live performances from Inductee Bootsy Collins as well as Girl Talk; and a special series of education programs designed to teach students across the nation about the history and impact of rock and roll.

  1. $5 k each ? They could have had virtually “Indestructible” laser -etched granite 12 x 12 tiles with the band/artists photo reproduced on them for probably less than half that & given the rest to a worthy local charity !
Another poorly conceived idea for the “idle rich” to look at & lay claim to !
