Judi Feniger Talks Project Mah Jongg

On View Now thru Sun 4/22

The mysterious and entertaining game of Mah Jongg was brought to the US from China and was adopted by Jewish and other cultures during the post-World-War-I period when free time became an option. Soon, thousands of affordable game sets were being imported, and changed the face of communities throughout the US.

The Cleveland film, “May The Tiles Be With You: Cleveland’s Love Affair With Mah Jongg,” by area filmmakers Amy Wasserstrom Cummings and John Cummings is also on a continuous loop in the exhibition.

In this live video, you’ll hear the clickety-clack of the mah jongg tiles, from games played by visitors at some of the four game tables set up right inside the exhibition. Listen as Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage director Judi Feniger talks about the exhibition, the visual art that accompanies it, and the display of period fashion from the Kent State University Museum.

Now on exhibit at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage thru Sun 4/22, Project Mah Jongg takes visitors on an exploration of this fascinating game shared by multiple cultures.
