Interested in social justice? Attend a conference in honor of Jean Donovan [pictured] who, along with two Maryknoll Sisters and Ursuline Sister Dorothy Kazel of Cleveland, was murdered by SOA-trained soldiers in El Salvador in 1980. The 2-day symposium features such sessions as “Confronting History and State Violence, Then and Now” and “God, Power, and Revolution: Politics of Liberation Theology.”
The scoop:
Inspired by the story of CWRU alumna Jean Donovan, one of four church women martyred in El Salvador in 1980, the conference will highlight the university’s historic and contemporary commitment to international socialjustice. The conference, designed to inspire young people to careers and involvement in social justice, will connect the life of Jean Donovan with the broader contexts of human rights, liberation theology, and historical memory.
