Join a celebration of astronomical proportions and explore the planets, stars, and solar system with Lake Metroparks at the annual Super Star Party August 14 at Penitentiary Glen Reservation. This program is an annual family astronomy night that features many indoor and outdoor activities for stargazers ages eight and up. View planets and other stellar objects with telescopes and expert guidance provided by the Chagrin Valley Astronomical Society.
This year’s theme delves into the loss of the night sky due to Light Pollution. Humans have marveled and used the night sky for thousands of years, but encroaching use of excess lights are blocking out the night sky. Come learn how having too much light at night not only affects many different animals, but humans as well. Activities include “The Amazing Race for the Stars,” “Take a walk on the Dark Side” naturalist lead night hike, “Redlight Express Train Ride,” and “Give a Hoot, Don’t Light Pollute” program at the Wildlife Center Yard.
