Pat’s in the Flats Bash Honors Owner Pat Hanych’s 75th Birthday

Pat

Fri 5/15 @ 7PM

Pat Hanych took over her family’s bar, the modest, hidden little Pat’s in the Flats on W. 3rd Street, in 1969 following her brother’s shooting death in a robbery at the bar and her father’s subsequent death of a heart attack. At the time it was still just a workingman’s bar, serving cheap beer and sandwiches workers getting off their shifts at the surrounding factories and plants.

But in the late ’80s, some musicians wandered in looking for a place to play and Pat’s accidentally became one of the area’s hot spots for punk and underground music with bands like Sosumi, the Pink Holes, the Vivians and Sleazy Jesus & the Splatter Pigs playing regularly and touring bands stopping in from time to time (The White Stripes played their first Cleveland show there). Pat doesn’t book the club; she just willingly opens her doors to anyone else who wants to book at show.

In appreciation, Cleveland’s Morticia’s Chair will be hosting a birthday bash at the club for Hanych to celebrate her 75th. It’s a little late; originally scheduled for March it was pushed back when Hanych had some health problems.

“Pat is back in the saddle, and feeling great!” says the guys in Morticia’s Chair. “Hope you can all make it to celebrate this grand occasion!”

Doors open at 7; cake is served at 8. Morticia’s Chair goes on at 9 to play their powerful, moody “folk goth” music, which they’ve showcased on a series of albums including last year’s Living a Dream.

“Come on down, shake off those cold weather blues and help us celebrate and honor Pat for all she has done for the music scene in Cleveland!” they invite one and all.
