Swing Like It’s the ’50s With Red Light Roxy at Nighttown

Thu 1/15 @ 8PM

You can hear plenty of serious, intellectual jazz around northeast Ohio, given the glut of high-level jazz musicians living here. But sometimes even those musicians have to cut loose and do something that’s accessible and fun.

So some of them came together to form ’40s style jazz/swing band Red Light Roxy, whose shows encourage dancing, not beard stroking.

They perform music associated with performers like Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong and Peggy Lee, with copious selections from the ever-popular Great American Songbook.

The group includes seasoned area veterans: pianist Joe Hunter, sax player Dave Sterner, guitarist Daris Adkins, drummer Glen Davis, bassist Demetrius Steinmetz, and sultry, sassy vocalist/actress Eileen Burns who embodies the era in her appearance as well as her vocals. (She recently spent a year touring with the Glenn Miller Orchestra.)

They’ll be performing at Nighttown. Tickets are $15.
