Sun 12/7 @ 1PM

The annual Holiday Circlefest is a whirl of special events at various participating University Circle institutions. But it centers on the Winter Lights Lantern Festival at Wade Oval and the Cleveland Museum of Art. As with its warmer weather event Parade the Circle, the museum brings together professional artists and people who have been attending workshops at the museum to create the displays — in this case of lanterns of all types.

They’ll be on display at the museum while the Environment of Lights will be installed on Wade Oval. An afternoon full of activities (as well as live music in the museum atrium) will be capped off at 5:30 pm with a procession through the Environment of Lights, led by giant puppets and lighted dancers. Among the activities that afternoon at the museum are additional workshops for anyone who wants to make a simple lantern to carry in the procession. Afterward, come back to the atrium for cookies and cocoa.

The event is free.

There are loads of other activities going on at nearly two dozen other University Circle institutions, including tours, refreshments, live music, hands-on crafts, and shopping opportunities. There’s a full listing here.

The Winter Lights Lanterns will be on display at museum through 12/31.
