The fuel for the Speedbumps’ nuanced folk-rock is Erik Urycki’s thoughtful tunes whose lyrics make you feel like he’s an old friend talking to you about what you’re going through or have been though. Vocalist Abby Luri provides a womanly counterpoint to Urycki’s lead vocals.
As the group begins work on its follow-up to 2013’s The Harbors We Seek and launches a Kickstarter campaign to fund it, which is already halfway to its goal only two weeks in, Urycki and Luri are taking a break to step outside the group and perform a duo concert at G.A.R. Hall in Peninsula as part of its Voices in the Valley series.
They’ll be joined by two friends, Lindsey and Ty, the latter a member of West Virginia bluegrass band Hillbilly Gypsies. It should be a nice, intimate evening.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.
