Tracey Thomas Sings Billie Holiday at Akron’s Empire Concert Club

Sun 10/26 @ 4PM

Tracey Thomas is one of the treasures of the Akron music scene. Back in the early ’80s she was the town’s reigning new wave queen with Unit 5. In the ’90s, she released several solo albums that explored her more personal side. In the ’00s, she met a go-getter musician half the age, Ryan Humbert, who has been a real catalyst for Akron music. He encouraged her to get back to making music and they formed a partnership that has included songwriting and recording another batch of solo albums for her.

Now in her 50s, Thomas has long since left behind her perky new wave chick phase to focus on music with more depth and nuance to match her maturing voice and outlook. While she still performs her own music, she also likes to take a break to perform music by artists she loves including Billie Holiday.

The Tracey Thomas Jazz Trio, which also features John Perry and Justin Tibbs will perform a set of Billie Holiday classics at the Empire Concert Club in Akron.

Tickets are $10.
