The Ramones Meet Mother Goose When The Boogers Play @AgoraCleveland

Boogers

Sat 10/25 @ 1pm

If most kids’ music is so cloying you’re afraid you and your child might die of sugar shock or keel over from the heavy-handed assault of uplifting “be a good person” and “brush your teeth” messages, you have to take him or her down to the Agora to hear Chicagoland band the Boogers aka “the world’s most dangerous kid’s band.”

Both of you will be laughing you ass off as the band blasts out its punk-based rock ’n’ roll — what they describe as “The Ramones meet Mother Goose” — twisting familiar children’s tunes like “The Itsy Bitsy Spider,” “Pop Goes the Weasel” and “London Bridge” into the sort of moshpit fare you never heard when you were young. It’s kinda educational, but mostly it’s a good time.

The band was founded in 2008 by Dr. Paul Crowe, a developmental psychologist and veteran punk rock guitarist whose one-time band actually did open for some latter-day Ramones projects. In the best Ramones tradition, he calls himself “Crusty Booger,” bassist Dave Leffel calls himself “Greenie Booger,” and drummer Rich Reichert calls himself “Sticky Boogie.” (Hey, the kids are going to find that beyond funny!)

Tickets are only $10 or $30 for a four-pack and kids under 2 (start ’em rocking young) are free. But you’ll want to bring extra money because they have cute T-shirts in kids sizes, and you may want to pick up all three of their albums on the way out.
