Wed 10/15-Sat 10/25

Who doesn’t love Bach? The baroque German composer has written some of the best-loved pieces in the classical music repertoire.

So the Cleveland Orchestra’s two-week celebration of the composer’s work should be a slamdunk (It comes on a the heels of a long weekend of Bach from Apollo’s Fire, Cleveland’s baroque orchestra).

Bach in Focus will include two weekends of regular orchestra concerts at Severance Hall.

On Thu 10/16 and Sat 10/18 Franz Welser-Möst will conduct the Cleveland Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, and the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus in Bach’s magnificent Mass in B Minor, composed at the end of his life.

On Thu 10/23, Fri 10/24, and Sat10/25, Hillary Hahn will join the Cleveland Orchestra to perform both of Bach’s violin concertos.

Bach in Focus will also feature a series of free events. They’ll start with Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra Advanced Performance Seminar students and Cleveland Orchestra members performing a concert of Bach instrumental chorales, sonatas and suitesat the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Lee Road Library.

On Fri 10/17, the Cleveland Orchestra and Chorus will perform the Missa Brevis from the Mass in B Minor, the section that includes Kyrie and Gloria, at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist downtown Fri 10/17

On Saturday afternoon, 10/18, ensembles from the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, Case Western Reserve University, the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Oberlin Conservatory, and Burning River Baroque will play selections from the Bach repertoire at Severance Hall.

No tickets or reservations are required for these events.
