The Black Lillies Return To Town @MusicBoxCle

BlackLillies

Fri 9/26 @ 7:30PM

If you caught the Black Lillies at the Kent Folk Festival in June and were impressed, you’re in luck — the group is coming back to the Music Box Supper Club.

The Knoxville, Tennessee-based group weaves folk, bluegrass, blues, and rock influences into traditional country to create a form of country music that feels both old and new, but very unlike today’s frat-boy country.

The quintet was formed by songwriter Cruz Contreras in 2008 after Robinella and the CCstringband, the band he led with his ex-wife, imploded along with his marriage. The group’s third album Runaway Freeway Blues, released in March 2013, reflects the band’s workhorse mentality, the shifting scenery of its professional life, and the input — musical and otherwise — of the many people it’s encountered on the way. Musically it runs the gamut from gentle folk-style tunes to all-out rockers. One of the band’s most distinctive elements—a throwback to traditional country — is the vocal duets between Contreras and harmony vocalist Tricia Gene Brady.

Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.
