Since the Cleveland Metoparks took over Edgewater Park, the place has been hopping all summer long, with weekly music, food and fun events.

It’s capping the season with a first-time event, the NEOCycle Music Fest — and they’ve snagged some terrific local talent for the two-stage affair, which is part of a three-day bicycle event starting Friday with events at the Cleveland Velodrome.

Tremont-based acoustic bluegrass/old-time quartet the Luckey Ones get things going in the Getaway Tent at 12:30pm. They’ll be followed by bluegrass-based rock band JP & the Chatfield Boys; Tiger & Boy, the duo of NIGHT’s Jenna Fournier and Oldboy’s Shawn Brewster; and By Light We Loom, the new band featuring husband & wife Shanna Delaney and Eric Ling of recently defunct folk/rockers Bethesda.

Indie rockers Village Bicycle will hit the GE Lighting Main Stage at 1 pm, followed by Dean Tartaglia; hip-hop/soul ensemble Muamin Collective; garage rockers Ottawa; Cities & Coasts, a new band featuring Nathan Hedges of Silverlights; alternative dance/rock group Captain Kidd; and veteran space/drone ensemble Ohio Sky.

The night will be capped off on the Main Stage by two area performers who have gone on to national success. Kent’s Jessica Lea Mayfield started off with her family’s bluegrass band (her parents still play that circuit) before developing her own wrenching Americana-rock, which has gotten heavier as she’s left her teen years behind. She released her first official album at 19; she’s 25 now.

Finally there’s Cloud Nothings (pictured), a scrappy, clangy trio that grew out of band leader Dylan Baldi’s bedroom tapes and ended up with four releases on a major indie label including this year’s Here and Nowhere Else. They’ll be touring the U.S. including some west coast festivals in October and heading back to Europe in November, before heading down under to Australia in December. But first, they’ll play for their hometown fans.

Other events over the three days include various types of rides, races, demonstrations, and bicycle education events, as well as food, beer, a farmers market, yoga, and kids activities. Sunday’s events will be split between Edgewater Park, with bike-related activities and music at both locations.

A full schedule of activities is here.

It’s all free.
