Yeah yeah yeah. We know you’ve been hearing all year long that it was 50 years ago that the Beatles conquered America. There have been countless commemorations of that groundbreaking invasion.

Now the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Library and Archives is getting their two cents in too, with a 50th anniversary event featuring Art Schreiber, one of five reporters lucky enough to travel with the group during their initial US/Canadian tour. Schreiber was then news director of Cleveland’s KYW-AM, and every radio station in every market was vying to be THE Beatles station. And when WHK-AM landed the sponsorship of the Beatles concert at Public Hall, KYW responded by sending Schreiber on the road with the group for three weeks, living the dream of most of America’s adolescent girls as a 36-year-old man.

Schreiber will regale the audience with stories from the tour and excerpts from interviews he did with the group. And head archivist Jennie Thomas will talk about the materials in the Rock Hall Archives’ collection relating to that momentous tour.

The presentation takes place at the Black Box Theatre of the Tommy LiPuma Center for Creative Arts on the Tri-C Metro campus, on the other side of the lobby from the archives.

It’s free, with a reservation. Go here to save your spot.
