Black 47 Says Farewell @KentStage

Black47

Tue 10/7 @ 8PM

After a quarter of a century making rabble-rousing, thought-provoking music that weds rock and roll to Irish music, Black 47 is calling it a day. Listen to Cool Cleveland’s exclusive interview with leader Larry Kirwan here.

Between endless gigging (they’ve claimed to have played 2,500 shows) and 14 CDs, they’ve left their mark. They’ve inspired a spate of like-minded bands who play rock with a Celtic beat. And their outspoken social and political commentary has earned them serious attention in the media.

But band leader Larry Kirwan has a lot of other irons in the fire — he’s also an author, playwright, and radio host with a program of music by Celtic artists on Sirius XM. The band released a final album, appropriately titled Last Call, in January, and intended to break up on November 8, precisely 25 years after their first gig in New York, where they are based. That gig will take place a long way from NYC, in New Orleans. But it’s NOT their final show. That one is scheduled for the B.B King Blues Club and Grill in New York on November 15.

You don’t have to book a flight to either place to catch them one last time. You can catch their farewell tour at the Kent Stage with Cleveland’s Marys Lane opening.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
