MacArthur “genius award” winner and acclaimed jazz violinist Regina Carter celebrates the 100th birthday of her musical idol and inspiration, the great jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald, on her tour stop at Oberlin’s Finney Chapel, Fri 2/23 at 8pm.
She’ll be helping Oberlin celebrate Black History Month and playing charts from her tribute album Ella: Accentuate the Positive (Couldn’t we all use a little of that?), released on Okeh/Sony Music Masterworks last year. Carter’s recorded many of Ella’s tunes before but for this album she dug deep and mined some hidden gems.
