If it’s winter it must be time for Mountain Heart to perform at Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s Happy Days Lodge — as they did in 2017 — and 2016 and 2015 and 2014 and 2013 ….
Their upcoming performance is actually their seventh performance at the venue. And for nearly 20 years, the band has been performing its high-energy, acoustic-based potpourri of rootsy sounds — blues, jazz, country, folk and bluegrass. It’s earned multiple awards nominations including Grammys and CMA awards, and performed more than 125 times on the Grand Ole Opry. And like many bands that blend bluegrass with other genres, it’s won a jam-band following with its instrumental prowess and fiery performances. In 2016 it released its eighth album Blue Skies.
The band has had a complete turnover of membership since its founding in 1998. It briefly added fiddler Molly Cherryholmes from the Cherryholmes family bluegrass band but now it’s back down to a quartet.
