Cleveland’s No Exit new music ensemble kicks off their 9th season of showcasing three world premieres by Ohio-based composers at three venues: at Heights Arts, Cleveland State University and SPACES.

The pieces include Clevelanders Matthew Ivic’s “Septet” and Nasim Khorassani’s “Growth” for string and “ …his existence a flux…” by Columbus-based saxophonist and composer Michael Rene Torres.

“All three of our world premiere pieces are really amazing!” says the groups director Timothy Beyer. “This is the third piece that No Exit has commissioned from Matt Ivic. He always brings something very original to the table. Nasim is an extraordinary young lady who is currently a composition student at Cleveland State. We performed a piece of hers in a workshop and were so impressed that we wanted to have her write something for us. Michael is currently teaching saxophone at Ohio State University. I think that he’s a remarkable composer and wrote something really powerful and nuanced for the group.”

The group will also perform a piece for solo flute by St. Paul composer Alex Brusentsev, part of a collaboration that No Exit has been doing with Minnesota new music group Zeitgeist, and a work by Eric Mandat for clarinet called “Tricolor Capers.”

No Exit performs at Heights Arts Sat 9/23, at Cleveland State’s Drinko Auditorium Fri 9/29 and at SPACES on Sat 9/30. All three performances are free and open to the public.
