It’s always fun to check out a new band on the scene.
The Sonder Bombs have been together only a year and a half old, and less than a year as a full band. Guitarist Jimmy Wilkens heard a demo by vocalist/ukulele player Willow Hawks and contacted her. They began writing together and clicked, so they formed the band as a duo in January 2016, dubbing the music “uke-punk” because of the way Hawks holds down the rhythm line primarily on ukulele. They added bassist Jake Stephens and drummer Eric Heald just this year.
Now they’ve got their self-titled EP ready to go. They’ll take it out for a spin at their release show at Mahall’s 20 Lanes. Sweepyheads, the Venus Flytraps and Skuff Micksun will be joining them. Tickets are $8.
