BW’s ‘Out of the Bachs’ Blends Disciplines in Bach-less Evening at the 78th Street Studios

McCarrell

Fri 3/3 @ 7PM

As any concert-goer knows, it’s not what they play but how they play it. Programing. Curation. Juxtaposition. Attitude.

For your consideration then, Out of the Bachs, an exploration of the influence of J. S. Bach. Featuring the Westhuizen Duo on piano (s) and Baldwin Wallace University professors and alumni on vocals performing the love songs of three songwriters not usually grouped together: Johannes Brahms, Cole Porter and Ira Gershwin. It’s all part of BW’s Bach Festival but it includes nothing by Bach.

The Westhuizen Duo, Pierre and Sophie Westhuizen, moved to Cleveland in 2011, opened the Cleveland International Piano Competition’s 2012 Concert Series, and have been touring their four-hand and two-piano repertoire around town and nationally ever since. See them play here.

BW alumni performing at Out of the Bachs include Chris McCarrell ’13 (pictured), currently cutting a swath on the Great White Way. Verb Ballets will perform dances choreographed especially for the occasion.

There will be food and spirits, and plenty of convenient parking. And you don’t have to drive to Berea. For tickets go  here or phone BW’s Box Office 440-826-2240.
