What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your sweetie than to learn to swing dance? Get Hep Swing, the mavens of Cleveland swing dancing, are hosting their Vintage Valentine Swing Dance at the Lakewood Masonic Temple, where they hold monthly dances. But this one should be exceptional fun. New York City’s Jessy Carolina & the Hot Mess, in town to perform at Blu Jazz Akron the previous night, will be performing live traditional jazz as the soundtrack for dancing.
As usual, there’s a lesson from 8-9pm, geared for both novices and experts, taught by Get Hep Swing owner Valerie Salstrom. The band strikes up at 9 and there’s dancing until midnight.
Don’t have a “valentine”? Don’t worry! You can come alone and meet lots of new friends — partner-swapping is part of the fun. Cost is $12 per person.
