 MUSIC

Tracey Thomas hit northeast Ohio with a bang in the late 70s, when her band, the Akron-based Unit 5, became the darlings of the area’s new wave scene and Thomas was its princess. But they faded away, and Thomas disappeared from the music scene until she was lured out of retirement in the mid 90s by Akron music scene catalyst Ryan Humbert, who produced a string of “comeback” albums for her. He also produced her brand-new album Words Can’t Save Us Now, her eighth since that comeback on which, she says, she tried to capture how Joni Mitchell’s Blue made her feel.

In addition Humbert encouraged Thomas to turn the notes she was writing about her life during the pandemic into a book, titled Little Miss Akron. She’ll debut them both at a concert at Weathervane Playhouse Sat 2/1 where Humbert’s red-hot alt country band the Shootouts will open the show. Read more.
