Trumpeter John Daversa has worked with Joe Cocker, Fiona Apple, Herbie Hancock. Regina Spektor and Bert Bacharach, among others. Pianist Tal Cohen as collaborated with people such as jazz sax star (and Cleveland native) Joe Lovano, Terence Blanchard an other jazz notables.
Together they call themselves Art of Duo, which they suggest isn’t strictly jazz, despite their backgrounds and despite the fact that the music, like music jazz, is based on improvisation. The music blends electric instrumentation with vocals and traditional piano/trumpet duo work.
“Looking at each other gives us both a player with the capacity we see in ourselves,” says Daversa. “This enables us to have a joint presence we otherwise only recognize and project in our own playing.”
They’ll be playing at the BOP STOP on Saturday June 24. Go here for more information and tickets.
