CAN Journal Brings Art Community Together for a Benefit Party

Sat 11/8 @ 6-9PM

CAN (Collective Arts Network) Journal was founded by a group of area artists and arts organizations to be an aggregate source of visual arts activity in northeast Ohio. It published its first issue in early 2012, and now comes out four times a year, with a weekly e-newsletter every Tuesday, covering gallery openings, artist talks, classes and other special events.

CAN Journal, now a nonprofit, with more than 80 member organizations and supporting artists, is holding a fall fundraiser called Buy Art, Buy Ohio, with a focus on encouraging people to buy original local art during the gift-giving season.

There’ll be a VIP hour from 6-7pm with an open bar, appetizers and early access followed at 7-9pm by a general admission event with a cash bar and catered food. The event will also feature an immersive video installation called “CAN You See Me Now,” featuring work by area artists, music and the chance to win raffle prizes including local art and other locally produced items, as well as experiences such as Beck Center tickets, a private tour of the Darl Center for the Arts, led by Darl Schaaff himself, and a letterpress class with CAN publisher Michael Gill. Guests can also get a first local at the CAN Journal Local Holiday Shopping Guide, which will be included with the winter issue of CAN Journal, coming out Friday November 21.

The event takes places at the Hall of St. James in 17415 Northwood Avenue, in Lakewood. Go here for more information and tickets.
