Sat 9/10 @ 8PM

Sun 9/11 @ 9PM

Born and raised in Cleveland, 63-year-old jazz sax player Joe Lovano has had a hugely successful career since he left Cleveland after high school to attended Berklee College of Music. He’s appeared on dozens of albums including more than two dozen as a band leader, collaborated with a long roster of jazz stars, teaches at his alma mater (one of the nation’s top schools for jazz musicians) and won a Grammy.

But he still has a warm spot in his heart for Cleveland despite leaving more than four decades ago and often returns to perform. This week he’ll be back to work with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra as they pay tribute to the 90th birthdays of jazz giants John Coltrane and Miles Davis, including a version of Coltrane’s seminal 1964 composition “A Love Supreme.”

They’ll perform Saturday night at the Hanna Theatre at PlayhouseSquare. Tickets are $35-$55. The following night they’ll perform in the more casual setting of the Bop Stop. Tickets are $25.
