Australian jazz vocalist Andy James has been around, having travelled the world as both a singer and flamenco dancer. Currently living in Las Vegas she’s also enthralled by the time she spent in New York. So she’s made that city of the centerpiece of the latest of the three albums she’s released in the past year.
Called Rhythm in New York, it includes her takes on repertoire standards such as “Walk on By,” “This Girl’s In Love With You” and “What the World Needs Now,” and original songs inspired by the city, which she co-wrote with jazz bassist/composer John Patitucci as well as her husband/dance partner Piero Pata.
To pull off the material on the road, she’s touring with a backing band featuring nine musicians (including a full horn section), led by keyboard player/musical director Bill Cunliffe. Shell be performing at the First Baptist Church of Cleveland in Shaker Heights. Tickets are $30. Get them here.
