Fall fests are breaking out all over. A host of organizations are kicking off October by inviting visitors to celebrate the bounty of the harvest season.

Out in Bath, the Crown Point Ecology Center, in partnership with Farming with Friends, is hosting its first Fun on the Farm – Fall Harvest Festival, a free event for people of all abilities, taking place Saturday October 4 from 10am-4pm. This family-friendly event will feature local food and drink vendors, as well as activities such as hayrides, a petting zoo, cornhole, ring toss, horseshoes, an inflatable gaga pit and bubble tron. Also in Bath, Hale Farm & Village, the reconstructed 19th century Ohio pioneer village, is again holding its Harvest Festival on Saturday October 4 and Sunday October 5, as well as Saturday October 12 and Sunday October 12, from 10am-4pm. There’ll be wagon rides, historic cooking demonstrations, performances by Cleveland poet Ray McNiece as Johnny Appleseed, seasonal games and other activities, and the MarketPlace featuring Ohio-made items. Seasonal refreshments will be available. Go here for tickets.

AutumnFest at the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes, taking place Saturday October 4 at 3-7pm, has a “Fairytales in the Forest” theme, with magic-related activities: decorating a magic pumpkin, climbing an enchanted beanstalk, taking an eerie evening hike, making a magic wand, roasting s’mores over a “fire-breathing dragon pit” and turning into a fairytale creature through face painting. Wear your Halloween costume — it’s not just for one day anymore. And there’s a costume parade at 4:30pm.Food will be available at food trucks and alcoholic drinks will be available for the grownups. The evening is free; there’s more info here.

Finally, in a slightly different and somewhat less family-friendly vein, Main Street Kent’s annual Kent Oktoberfest takes place on Saturday, October 4 from noon to 8pm in downtown Kent This one will be heavy on the brews and the German food, although other types of food will also be available from local restaurants and cafes set up on the street. There’ll also be live bands performing, both pop and polka, as well as multiple performances by the German Family Society Youth Group dancers. And there will be a pair of stein-holding contests at 3 and 5:30pm. Tickets are available here.
