Fri 6/21 @ 7PM
Cleveland’s No Exit New Music, dedicated to presenting new avant-garde music, hosts another of its intimate concerts at Appletree Books in Cleveland Heights.
The performer is Cleveland flutist Sean Gabriel, who will perform five pieces: Victoria Bond’s Shenblu, Betsy Jolas’ Episode 1, Peter Tanner’s Diversions, Augusta Read Thomas’ Karumi and Howard J. Buss’ Stellar Visions. For Diversions and Stellar Visions, he’ll be joined by percussionist Andrew Pongracz.
“I wanted to present as many styles of flute music as possible within this recital, in terms of melody, tempo, color, and energy,” said Gabriel. “And featuring the marimba and flute combined for two works adds another level of excitement.”
He points out that his three solo pieces were all written by female composers he’s had the opportunity to interact with. He says, “This is special — it always adds depth to a piece when you’re familiar with the composer’s intent.”
The event is free.
