Jamming

Jamming

Yes, we’ve been jamming and staying busy, and so have our colleagues engaged in improving the culture of our region. And we use the word ‘culture’ in the broadest sense.

One way we track that movement is by finding the folks who are shaking things up, and cozying right up close to them, usually with a small camera in our hand. We’ve done it again this week by posting a batch of video interviews, conversations and candid shots of those who are legendary or should be. Of the approximately 1500 videos we’ve produced over the last few years, just about 500 are now up on YouTube ready for your viewing. And of course, we would recommend using our mobile app for iPhone and Android to view those videos. Works on iPads and ‘DROID tablets, too!

Grab a sneak peek behind the scenes at the CMA’s unbelievable new atrium. No, really, you have to see this interview with director David Franklin on the economic impact of one of our region’s greatest institutions, so you can see these exclusive shots. I talk with my dear friend and collaborator James Levin, one of our region’s true innovators, about his latest creation: Wooster Jam. I also talked with a parishoner of St. James Church in Lakewood, one of the 12 slated for reopening.

And if by chance you’re in the mood for video, we’ve posted no less than 16 this week on Rock Hall Induction fun stuff. Start by scanning local celebs caught at their most glamourous on the Red Carpet. As Rod Stewart, backed by the Faces, sings, “Madame Onassis’ got nothing on you.” Or, if you prefer, in the immortal words of Bob Marley, “We’re jamming, and I hope you like jamming too.” –Thomas Mulready

Sneak Peek Inside CMA’s Fabulous New Atrium
Exclusive Interview With Director David Franklin

This was unexpected. We stopped by the Cleveland Museum of Art to talk with Director David Franklin about the economic impact study they released showing how the Museum drives $140 million per year into our local economy.

Those are eye-popping figures, to be sure. But we didn’t expect Franklin to simultaneously give us (and our Cool Cleveland readers) a sneak peek at their stupendous new atrium, all under glass and still under construction, and larger than a football field.

Listen in and give your eyes a visual treat as we talk with Franklin about their exciting $350 million renovation and expansion while inside the new atrium.

“A Pirate… A Prison… A Plot…” and not just any pirate either, a college-educated one! Those three words are the tagline for Rebels on Lake Erie, a documentary that chronicles John Yates Beall’s ultimately failed attempts to liberate Confederate prisoners being held on Johnson’s Island, near Sandusky, Ohio. What could be cooler than a Civil War documentary with a pirate and an attempted prison break that took place right here in Northeast Ohio?

Rebels on Lake Erie will have its world premiere screening Thu 4/19 at the Quaker Square Inn in Akron.
