For a number of years now local musicians Charlie Wiener and Alex Bevan have been presenting a series of “In Celebration of” tribute evenings to beloved Cleveland musicians, honoring such beloved individuals as Michael Stanley, Carlos Jones, and Dave Smeltz.
They’ve mostly been at the Beachland Ballroom. But now they’re doing their first in the Akron a at the Rialto Theater, appropriately to honor an Akron-based musician, singer/songwriter/guitarist/educator Jim Ballard, a mainstay of the northeast Ohio acoustic scene for 50 years who released his first album South Side Days in 1976 and just kept making music.
With Wiener emceeing, performing musicians will include Alex Bevan, Marc Lee Shannon, Rachel Brown, Benjamin Payne, Jim Gill, Jon Mosey, Nate Vaill, Tracey Thomas, Ryan Humbert, Robin Stratton, Guy Pernetti, Michael Grady, Cathy Grady, Steve Mehal, Karyn Morgan, and Terry Fairfax. Jim’s current band the Strangs will also perform along with “special guests.”
Get tickets here. Proceeds will benefit the Akron Marathon Race Series and Better Kenmore.
