For the sixth time, Akron-based rock guitarist Neil Zaza presented his Halloween-season show One Dark Night, this time at the Agora. Augmented by a full band, three strong vocalists, MC Sparky B, dancers from the Ohio Contemporary Ballet (Verb Ballets) and a string quartet from the Contemporary Youth Orchestra, the show featured powerful arrangements of a variety of classic rock tunes. An oversized screen showing photos, film clips, news articles, quotes and more told the story of our reaction to monsters of various types — including those inside us — and gave the show a dark, spooky atmosphere that lifted it out of the realm of an ordinary performance. The dancers and vocalists also provided visuals that worked in tandem with the projections. For the first time, Zaza took the show out of town, performing in Detroit the following night, and hopes to expand it to other markets not year.
