City Music Cleveland has joined with The Temple-Tifereth Israel in Beachwood for a special one-night performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s Messa da Requiem. Taking place on the “Day of Remembrance,” it honors the memory of those who died in the Holocaust. It recalls the 16 performances of the work that took place at the concentration camp in Terezin, Czechoslovakia by Jewish musicians imprisoned there.
James Gaffigan, who led the City Music Cleveland Chamber Orchestra from 2005-2010, returns to conduct the program, with Ben Malkevitch directing the City Music Cleveland chorus. Soloists for the program are soprano Chabrelle Williams, mezzo-soprano Nancy Maultsby, tenor Roy Hage and bass Raymond Aceto.
The performance takes place at the Maltz Performing Arts Center in University Circle. Like all City Music Cleveland performances, it’s free but reservations are recommended. Go here.
