FACT:  None of the people accused, tried, imprisoned, murdered and otherwise persecuted at Salem were witches.

For a different perspective and voice about the Salem Witch Trials, be at the Buckland Museum of Witchcraft and Magick on Thursday October 23 at 7.30pm.

When I visited Salem last year, I immersed myself in the real history of the Salem Witch Trials. I was most moved by the Memorial Ledges, which is a solemn and stark tribute to each person who was unjustly executed in the shameful season that was 1692.

I also kept seeing myself in the places of the victims, deeply moved by their sparse and painful chronicles. On my return to Cleveland, I wrote my Salem Victims’ ’zine to give a voice to each of those persecuted people, who were silenced or deleted by the oppressors then in charge of Salem.

I’ll share my tributes to some of the falsely accused. I’ll provide background about the cold, fearful, threatening atmosphere and other factors that led to the 1692 Salem persecutions and trials.

We will have a candle ceremony memorial, a requiem to the 20persons who were cruelly imprisoned and executed, the five who died in jail, and the two people who survived the trials but paid a fearful price.

A candle ceremony will also pay tribute to all those — past and present — who suffer persecution unjustly.
