Kids have always been fascinated with vehicles and machinery which probably accounts for the exploding number of events where families are invited to bring their kids to gawk at big trucks and work vehicles and even climb on them or sit in the driver’s seat.
And there are TWO this weekend!
Down at Summit Metro Parks Munroe Falls Metro Park on Saturday, Touch-a-Truck will feature nearly two dozen park district and emergency response vehicles, including a dump truck, a bucket trick and a 1928 Model AA pickup. There’ll also be a sandbox with toy trucks and vehicles for the littlest kids who might be overwhelmed by the big ones. Speaking of overwhelmed, 10-11am is the autism-friendly hour, with no horns, music or flashing lights and there will be a mobile sensory bus there for the full event for anyone who needs a break. Food and drink will be available for purchase and the Maple Leaf Gifts pop-up shop will be offering kids’ books, apparel and other items. And, oh parents, here comes the kicker: the Humane Society of Summit County’s Mobile Adoption Center will be there from 11:30am-1:30pm will some really adorable adoptable animals. Plan accordingly.
If the kids haven’t had their fill of big vehicles, the next day you can bring them to Legacy Village in Lyndhurst for Meet the Machines. There, on Main Street and on the Lawn, kids can explore emergency and service vehicles, such as fire trucks and police cars, construction equipment such as bucket trucks and front-end loaders and various other types of machinery. There’ll be a lot else going on including a tent with supplies for making your own machine, a Nerdy Derby wooden race track, live entertainment from RealPopFusion, costume characters, games, prizes, giveaways and dancing.
Both events are free.
