Cleveland Pops Orchestra Salutes Dolly, Hank, Willie and Other Country Greats

Fri 1/30 @ 7:30PM

While contemporary country music ran out of inspiration years ago, devolving into nothing but ’80s mainstream rock with lyrics about drinking (trust me: a majority of it is about drinking), the legendary voices of country music never lose their groundbreaking appeal. Artists such as Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jenning and Johnny Cash, and of course, the great Hank Williams, still fuel young Americana/roots music/alt country acts today.

At its next concert the Cleveland Pops Orchestra will pay tribute to these country legends at Severance Hall — kind of an odd location and set-up for that type of music. Special guests Rachel Potter and Patrick Thomas will join the orchestra and the Cleveland Pops Chorus to play some of those classic hits — and yes, some of them were about drinking, but a lot more of them were about heartache and just daily life.
