Dobama’s 2025 Holiday Show Adapts “The Hobbit” for the Stage

Thu 12/4-Sun 1/4/26

For the holiday season, Dobama Theatre always books a family-friendly production with wide appeal, often a fantasy-based show of some type. And this year, true to form, that show is The Hobbit, based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s 1937 children’s fantasy novel, a prequel to his wildly popular Lord of the Rings series. In it Hobbit bilbo Baggins joins the Wizard Gandalf on a quest to confront a dragon, during which they encountered an array of interesting creatures. The book was made into a series of popular films released in 2012, 2013 and 2014, which created still more fans for the original story.

The stage adaptation, written by Greg Banks, may lack the special effects that film and the imagination can create, but the narrative itself should be magical enough. It runs through January 4, so there’s plenty of time to squeeze it into your family’s holiday schedule. Go here for tickets.
