We’re Waiting Eagerly for Baby Tiger Cubs Born at the Cleveland Zoo to Make Their Public Debut

The word “adorable” keeps cropping up in the comments on the Zoo’s Facebook page.

Zoya and Hector have been at it again!

The pair are Amur tigers who reside at the Cleveland Metropark Zoo’s Rosebrough Tiger Passage, which features four connected habitats, which luckily have room for a few more.

Back in December of 2020, mom Zoya gave birth to a couple of cubs, sired by Hector, the first born at the zoo in more than 20 year. But they didn’t wait long for a follow-up: on November 6, 2023, two more cubs were born at the zoo, now revealed to be a boy and a girl.

The news is good for conservationists too. Amur tigers are an endangered species with only a few hundred animals estimated to remain in their native regions. At the Rosebrough Tiger Passage visits can learn about the threats both tiger sub-species face including habitat loss and poaching.

They can’t see the babies quite yet though. They won’t be let loose for viewing until early spring. Meanwhile you can get updates (and adorable photos) on the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo’s social media pages. Stay tuned for the naming contest.
