While Walkabout Tremont, the new neighborhood event that replaced the long-time Tremont Art Walk this past spring, will go on year-round, summer is really the best time to enjoy all the street life they’ve added to it.
August’s theme is “Dance-About,” and yes, there will be dancing in the street, as well as food and drink specials in participating restaurants and bars. There will be street performers of all types including swing dancers, ballroom dancers, break dancers, salsa dancers, hula hoopers and fire performers, as well as GroundWorks DanceTheater performing in Lincoln Park as part of Tremont Arts in August.
There’s still a lot of art, in retail shops, galleries, bars and restaurants, and in tents along Professor Avenue. Classic cars will be cruising the neighborhood, and several of the area’s lovely historic churches will be open for tours. The folks who came up with Walkabout Tremont were hoping that some people would choose to hang out for the whole weekend, and it looks like you might have to to take in everything.
